La première bibliothèque publique indépendante en milieu rural a ouvert ses portes en 1894 à Lac-Brome. Créée et cédée à la communauté par Narcissa Farrand Pettes à la mémoire de son défunt mari, Nathaniel, la bibliothèque est un legs aux générations futures.

In 1894, rural Quebec’s first free public library opened its doors. Built and bequeathed to the community by Narcissa Farrand Pettes in memory of her late husband Nathaniel, Pettes Memorial Library was a private gift for generations to come.
