The Heritage of the Pettes Memorial Library

This presentation will explore the beginnings of the Pettes Memorial Library, the unique story of its foundation, the architectural history of the building, and the history of the library that it houses, as well as look at the plans for an expansion to the building to allow the library to serve the needs of the community in the coming decades.


Jana Valasek

Jana has been the Executive Director of the Pettes Memorial Library since 2004. She did both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at McGill University. She holds a B.A. in History, with a second major in Canadian Studies, as well as a Master of Library and Information Studies. She lives in Sutton with her family and many, many animals.


Annmarie Adams

Annmarie is an architectural historian specializing in the intersections of medicine, gender, and the built environment. She is the Stevenson Professor of the Department of Social Studies of Medicine and former Director of the School of Architecture, McGill University. Her books include Architecture in the Family Way (1996); Designing Women (2000); and Medicine by Design (2007).
