Public Fundraising Campaign — $1.3 million raised

Press Release: Pettes Memorial Library,  Lac-Brome, February 14, 2022

The Board of Trustees of Pettes Memorial Library in Lac-Brome is proud to announce that the $1.5 million fundraising goal for its library expansion project, launched in June 2021, is well within reach. Donations during this public fundraising campaign total $1.3 million to date. Leslie K. Jonas, Chairman of the Fundraising Committee expressed his delight with the generosity of the community and the commitment of the volunteer fundraising team. “The Library’s ambassadors are working tirelessly, making contacts and reaching out to potential donors,” he said. “But our goal has not yet been attained and there is nothing preventing us from exceeding it.”

Today’s announcement is made possible especially by two significant donations made in recent weeks by prominent Lac-Brome residents.

Mr. Alain Bédard and Ms Johanne Bédard, respectively Chairman of the Board, President and CEO and Vice-President, Marketing and Communications of Transforce International, a multinational transport and logistics firm, will contribute $500,000. “For our family, community engagement is a fundamental value.  As new residents in the area, we recognize the importance of actively participating in village life and of contributing to this wonderful project, a project that will enhance the lives of local and regional residents.”

Mr. Laurent Beaudoin and Ms. Claire Beaudoin, long-time residents of Lac-Brome whose generosity has often been felt in the community, are contributing $200,000. “We attach a great deal of importance to the quality of life in the community to which we belong. This project will enhance the Library’s services and programming, all dedicated to the enrichment of the residents of Lac-Brome and area.”

Recognition and thanks also go to the many generous private and corporate donors who gave during the silent and public campaigns, and to the Ville de Lac-Brome for its support and the $1 million contribution to the project.

According to Jane Livingston, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Pettes Library, “This new space will be a legacy to future generations. Without the support of the many philanthropists in the area, the Library would not be going ahead with this exciting project. The entire community joins Pettes in recognizing their contribution.”

Pettes Library is a public institution financed entirely by operating grants, community donations and fundraising activities such as the annual used book sale run entirely by the Library’s dedicated team of volunteers.  Chronic shortage of space inspired the Pettes Board of Trustees to launch this expansion project, a project that will respect the heritage character of this beloved building, while offering residents 21st Century services and equipment.
